North Norfolk - A Diver Amongst the Bathers

An early start at Cley gave some lovely light last Saturday as the sun rose east of the Marshes:

An early morning Little Egret, one of around 16 on a small pool just south of the shingle:

On the scrape, a Black-headed Gull flew in to drink:

A lone Ruff flew in and preened alongside a Lapwing:

Black-tailed Godwits were the first waders to arrive at around 8am:

A Lapwing:

Later in the morning I went on to Titchwell, and straight down to the beach where the tide was receeding. The superb weather and southerly breeze left the sea in an unusually calm state, at times completely flat. A group of around eight Great-crested Grebe included a nice juvenile Red-necked Grebe:

Waders had to compete on the shoreline with a good number of human waders, as a result there was a constant movement of birds along the shoreline, such as these Curlew:

Brent Geese:

Knot:

The highlight was a beautiful juvenile Red-throated Diver, which spent a long time fishing close in shore. The bird didn't seem purturbed by the number of bathers in the sea and found its way between them:
